The Fazer 1000 debuted for 2001 as the big-capacity sibling of the Fazer 600, using a detuned R1-derived 998 cc engine with side-draft carburettors in a steel double-cradle frame. A small half-fairing, upright riding position and big tank made it a practical road bike rather than a track weapon. Its high price and basic standard tyres were common criticisms.
